History
The Alumni Association of the college of engineering, Guindy had its genisis in the year 1925, when Rao bahadur, G. Nagaratnam Ayyar, a distinguished Alumnus became the first Indian principal of the college. As women engineers were unheard of in those days, the Association was named as OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION.

With all the limitations prevailing then, it was indeed commendable on the part of Er.Nagarathnam Ayyar to conceive such an Association. He also carried the burden of building it up during the next 11 years, till his retirement in 1936. He was the Founder Secretary during that period. A convention was established in 1936 that the Chief Engineer of PWD would be the president and the principal of the college would be the Secretary.

The first set of Bye-Laws and rules and regulations were framed in 1959 and the Association was registered under the Societies Act XXI (1860) on August 20 1959. Er. J.M. Frederick, Er. P.Rajagopal Pillai, Er. S. Panchanathan, Er. R. Ramaswamy, Er. A.P. Jambulingam, Er. A. Srinivasan, Er. P. Sivalingam, Er. T. Muthian and Er. K.V. Ekambaram were the signatories to the Rules and Regulations. Thereafter, as per the rules, the principal of the college served as Secretary and two members of staff served as Joint Secretary and Treasurer.

The first AGM was conducted on December 10, 1960 and a Rally was held on the occasion. The General body elected the first set of office bearers and committee members.

The name of the Association was changed in the year 1985 to “Alumni Association of the College of Engineering Guindy” due to influx of a large number of women students joining the college. The Bye-Laws were also amended. The new name was registered on October 10 1985 under the Tamil Nadu Societies Act XXVII (1975).

The Association was functioning in a portion of the main building of the college. As membership grew, so did the spectrum of activities. The increase in membership was very high in the later half of the Eighties. A need was felt for an independent building to effectively fulfill the objectives and commitments. A formal proposal for a building was presented in 1989. With the all round support received from the principals and the Vice – Chancellors, the first phase was completed and formally inaugurated on August 30, 1991 by the then Education Minister in the presence of the President of India, Governor of Tamil Nadu and the Chief Minister.

The Second phase of the First Floor construction was taken up in 1997, with substantial donation from Er. A.C. Muthiah, an alumnus of the college. The floor was formally opened by Padmasri Prof. R.M. Vasagam, V.C Anna University on August 1998.

The hall in the first floor was air-conditioned with contributions from 1978 Batch Alumni. It was inaugurated on 6th July 2005 by Dr.D. Viswanathan present VC of Anna University.

The interaction between the Association and the college is growing all the time. With the improved infrastructure in our building, our contribution shall certainly match the expectations in the years to come.
